Bayanihan with CANVAS: Opening the Door of Possibilities for a Children's Museum of Philippine Art

Posted by Looking for Juan Online Store on

Celebrate the spirit of communal collaboration with Looking for Juan's newest program, Bayanihan. Inspired by the Filipino tradition of bayanihan — which signifies a nation or community coming together to achieve a common goal — this new initiative aims to partner with non-profits and like-minded organizations to create art-inspired products, enabling them to raise funds and make a positive impact in their communities.

To kick off this program, we have teamed up with Gigo Alampay, executive director and founder of The Center for Art, New Ventures and Sustainable Development (CANVAS). Together, we have created a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle of his work, entitled Red Door, to support the development of the Tumba-tumba Children’s Museum of Philippine Art.

The puzzle features an AI-generated image of a small girl standing in front of a red door, ready to enter a world of imagination. It is meant to embody the essence of childhood, where anything and everything is possible. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the puzzle will go to the development of the children's museum.

Located in Batangas, one of the Philippines' fastest-growing provinces just a two-hour drive from Manila, the Tumba-tumba Children’s Museum of Philippine Art will be situated on a 1.5-hectare piece of raw land adorned with native trees.

Groundbreaking of the museum with CANVAS and the local government

At the heart of the open-air museum will be CANVAS' collection of narrative artworks from some of the Philippines' finest contemporary artists. The museum is designed to provide children with an environment where they can freely explore, fostering empathy and independent thinking. Exhibitions and offerings will reflect CANVAS' commitment to storytelling and its belief in the interconnectedness of human rights, children's rights, climate change, and internet safety.
