THE ARTWORK
TREE HUGGING PRIESTS OF ETHIOPIA(Acrylic on Canvas, 2025)
Drawing inspiration from the church forests of Ethiopia, where religious communities have long protected ancient woodland around sacred churches, Tree Hugging Priests of Ethiopia unfolds a sanctuary shaped by reverence for the living world. Architectural forms dissolve into lush forests inhabited by watchful animals and uncanny beings, creating a world in which the sacred is found not apart from nature, but within it—where the stewardship of the living world is itself a spiritual practice.
THE ARTIST
Jericho Moral graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts in 2011. An advocate of craftsmanship, he grounds his aesthetic in traditional styles and media. His work often explores themes of the naïve, grotesque, and folkloric—resulting in pieces that are often absurd or whimsical in nature.
He is a member of Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan (Ang INK), an organization dedicated to children's book illustration. His art has been published by Lampara, Johnny & Hansel, and Bookmark. In 2014, he received an Honorable Mention for the prestigious Alcala Prize awarded by the Philippine Board on Books for Young People.
