THE ARTIST
Roel Obemio was born in 1967 in Cagayan de Oro. He completed a course in Architectural Drafting at the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial Polytechnic State College of Northern Mindanao and later studied Fine Arts, majoring in Painting, at the University of the East.
Before becoming a full-time artist, he worked as an event caricaturist and as an effects animator for Fil-Cartoons. He was the first recipient of the Artist of the Year award and also served as president of the Saturday Group of Artists.
Known for his distinctive rounded figures, Obemio cites the work of the late Colombian master Fernando Botero as a major source of inspiration.
