About the Artwork
In The Broken Clock, Jericho Moral invites us to dwell in a beautiful collapse of order where disarray becomes poetic and the absurd gives way to wonder. Here, he conjures a world of fantastical creatures, precarious architecture, and overlapping narratives. Time appears to be fractured in this archipelago, where every little scene unfolds all at once in a dreamlike state of flux. It is a meditation on disarray, imagination, and dissolution of structure.
About the Artist
Jericho Moral graduated from the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts in 2011. An advocate of craftsmanship, he grounds his aesthetic in traditional styles and media. His work often explores themes of the naïve, grotesque, and folkloric—resulting in pieces that are often absurd or whimsical in nature. He is a member of Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan, and has been published by Lampara, Johnny & Hansel, and Bookmark. In 2014, he received an Honorable Mention for the prestigious Alcala Prize from the Philippine Board on Books for Young People.
