Based on Aldy Aguirre’s solo exhibit titled "Usok at Bulaklak sa Panahon ng Martial Law," this collection of art postcards presents symbols, icons, and events surrounding the Marcos dictatorship. The 19 cards chronicle the rise, fall, and return of the Marcos family’s control over the Philippines. Aldy’s soft watercolor paintings hide tiny details of our history before, during, and after Martial Law in plain sight.

About the Artist

Aldy Aguirre is a freelance artist and illustrator, who narrates his art using watercolor and gouache. Inspired by nature, memories, and emotions, his artful dreamscapes can be seen in various children’s books. His works have been recognized locally by the Philippine Board on Books for the Young People and National Book Development Board; and abroad by ILUSTRARTE in Castelo Branco, Portugal, and Sharjah Exhibition for Children’s Book Illustrations.  He illustrated the book Si Kian, now part of the White Ravens Catalog by the International Youth Library in Munich, Germany.

Recently, Aldy held his solo show “Usok at Bulaklak sa Panahon ng Martial Law” at CANVAS Gallery and Garden, which is an extension to a children’s book slated to be released within the year. He is a member of Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan, an association of artists committed to creating and promoting illustrations for children.
